Baba Muktanandji's 20th Mahasamadhi Celebrations
at Shanti Mandir, Magod - October 6-20, 2002

Many months of activity that began in January 2002 with the third anniversary of the founding of  the Shanti Mandir ashram in Magod, India, culminated in October 2002 with fifteen days of celebrations honoring the 20th mahasamadhi of Baba Muktanand.

It was a truly memorable fifteen days starting with joyous celebrations of the 40th birthday of Gurudev Nityanand, continuing with Sharad Navratra, the nine-day worship of the Goddess, accompanied by poojas and havans performed by Brahmin priests under the guidance of Anant Lavar Shastriji, and culminating with a Sant Sammelan, three special days of spiritual discourses by revered saints from throughout India on the subjects of Dharma, Karma, Bhakti and Jnana, which itself peaked on the glorious final day on October 20, twenty years since Baba's mahasamadhi, the day he left his physical body to merge with divine consciousness.

Day and night, the ashram in Magod, India resonated with the sound of sacred mantras and chanting by devotees from throughout the world, everyone united by their devotion for God and their love of Sri Gurudev.

The final day of celebrations was marked with a moving tribute by Gurudev in which he expressed his appreciation to all the saints and devotees who had gathered together to show respect and gratitude for Baba, his work and blessings. He also released the first book published by Shanti Mandir, Mukt-Anand, a tribute to Baba comprising accounts of Baba's life and work, devotee's personal experiences with Baba and scholarly descriptions of the lineage of Siddhas and the Guru Principle.
