In 1962, Swami Nityananda was born into the heart of an Indian family.
His parents had for years been among those closest to Swami Muktananda Paramahamsa, the renowned spiritual Master.
From the very beginning, his mother took Nityananda each weekend to Muktananda's ashram in Ganeshpuri, India.
In the exceptional atmosphere around his Guru, Nityananda absorbed the principles of yoga. He studied the classic Sanscrit scriptures; Vedanta, Kashmir Shaivism and Kundalini Yoga in particular. His special love for chanting and meditation became a major focus in his life. But the rock upon which Nityananda's spiritual training rested was his close, lifelong relationship with Swami Muktananda.
From 1978 Nityananda travelled the world with his Guru. In 1980 he was initiated into the order of Saraswati monks and given the name of Muktananda's own Guru, Nityananda.
Two years later, Swami Nityananda and his sister, Swami Chidvilasananda, were formally installed as Muktananda's co-successors.When their Guru passed on in October, 1982, they continued running his organisation together. The two separated in 1985.
For the next ten years, Swami Nityananda continued his spiritual work, maintaining a steadfast and serene simplicity through a series of challenging tests.
In May 1995, the spiritual leaders of Hindu society, ( the revered Acharyas and Mahamandaleshwars ), elevated him to the rank of Mahamandaleshwar - the youngest in history.
With Mahamandaleshwar Swami Brahmananda.Through 'Shanti Mandir', Swami Nityananda fulfils the role handed to him by his Guru, sharing with us the process of inner awakening and transformation.
